ATSTŪMIMO BAIMĖ - Milana Yoga

Žmonės sugeba atlikti neįsivaizduojamus žygdarbius, pavyzdžiui, įkopti į aukščiausią planetos kalną ar pasinerti į tamsiausią vandenyno bedugnę; nusileisti Mėnulyje ar išgyventi beveik negyvenamoje aplinkoje; Tačiau vis dar yra viena žmogiška baimė, kuri gali nutraukti visus mūsų nuotykius ir džiaugsmo išraišką.

Baimė, apie kurią kalbame, yra atstūmimo baimė. Ši atstūmimo baimė gali apimti mus kasdienėse situacijose, pavyzdžiui, kai kalbame su žmonėmis, arba taip pat gali apimti tada, kai esame atsidūrę ypatingoje situacijoje, pavyzdžiui, kai duodame interviu arba esame vertinami už mūsų nuveiktus darbus darbo vietoje. Bet kuriuo atveju, tai, su kuo susiduriame, yra ne tik tikra baimė, bet ir jos padariniai labai žalojantys.

Atstūmimo baimės pasekmės gali būti matomos ne tik asmeninėse situacijose, bet ir profesinėje aplinkoje, nes poreikis priklausyti ir noras būti įvertinam yra vienas pagrindinių žmogaus bruožų. Taigi atstūmimo baimę galima patirti kaip nepatogų jausmą prieš pat pasirodant darbo pokalbyje arba kaip nepatogią emociją asmeniniuose santykiuose, nes nuolatinis nepasitikėjimas ir abejonės savimi gali lengvai paversti atstūmimo baimę į baimę būti apleistam. Taigi tai gali lengvai nukreipti laimingus santykius į skausmingą pabaigą.

Vienas iš blogiausių šio baimingo jausmo pasekmių pasireiškia kaip sunkumas pasakyti „taip“ tose situacijose, kai iš tikrųjų norėjome pasakyti „ne“. Net jei žinome, kad ištarę „taip“ pervargtume, apsunkintume ir kartais net jaustume naudojimąsi mumis – vien dėl šios baimės jaustis atstumtiems, atsiduriame tokiose varginančiose situacijose.

Dėl šios kovos žmonės atsiduria žalingose sąlygose asmeniniame gyvenime ir tai netgi priveda žmones prie perdegimo darbo vietose. Taip nutinka todėl, kad nepilnatvė viduje, verčia mus mūsų vertės patvirtinimų ieškoti išorėje ir, kol tai suvokiame, šis ieškojimas virsta mūsų laimės kaina - žmonių patenkinimo savo vertės įrodymo vardan. Taigi, tai žmonės verčia gyventi netikrą, išgalvotą gyvenimą, kuris juos labiau atitolina nuo tikrojo savęs.

Ir ši atstūmimo baimė taip pat neleidžia mums siekti savo vizijų ir idėjų, nes tai darydami turėtume išeiti iš savo komforto zonos, o kaip tai padaryti, kai ši baimė jas paralyžiuoja? Tokiose situacijose įsikibimas į esamą situaciją atrodo saugus, o mintis išbandyti ką nors naujo, savo potencialui atskleisti, tampa bauginančia užduotimi. Blogiausia, kad ši baimė verčia žmones atidėti savo poreikius, troškimus, į sąrašo pabaigą ir jie toliau gyvena su mintimi, kad jų pačių troškimai nebesvarbūs.

Be jokios abejonės, tai verčia kitus žmones keisti savo elgesį su žmonėmis, kurie kenčia nuo šio nesaugumo. Ne tik kai kurie žmonės pradeda juos laikyti “savaime suprantamais”, bet ir jų pačių baimė būti atstumtiems pritraukia kitų žmonių atstūmimą. Posakis „Panašus traukia panašų“ šiuo atveju pasitvirtina, nes kai bijome būti atstumti, atrodo, kad įskiepijame tą jausmą kitiems, kad su mumis taip ir elgtųsi. Tai taip pat leidžia aplink mus burtis tokiems žmonėms, kurie nori pasinaudoti mūsų nesaugumu. Tai tik daro žmones labiau pažeidžiamus, nei jie jau yra.

Kalbant apie sprendimą, keli paprasti psichologiniai patarimai galėtų padėti žmonėms įveikti šią traumuojančią emociją.

Susitikite su baime ir leiskite sau būti pažeidžiamam. Tai gali būti geriausias dalykas, kuris gali nutikti žmogui, nes jei žmogus visą gyvenimą gyventų su įkalintomis emocijomis, vėliau būtų skausminga su tuo susitvarkyti. Pasirinkimas su baime susitikti ir leidimas sau būti pažeidžiamam padeda išlipti iš šių spąstų.

Būkite pozityvūs – į ką dabar sutelksite dėmesį, pakeis viską iš esmės. Jei nesėkmės akimirkoje galite išlikti pozityviai nusiteikę, tuomet jau darote pokyčius.

Atstūmimas priartina mus prie to, ko iš tikrųjų norime. Jis net galėtų veikti kaip “žadintuvas” – kitu atveju ir toliau bėgtume ne į savo svajones. Tikėkite, kad esate stipresnis, nei galite pagalvoti – tai padidins jūsų gebėjimą susitvarkyti su būsena.

Laikykitės tokio eiliškumo – jausmai, mintys, veiksmai. Prieš susivokdami jausmuose esame linkę taisyti veiksmus, todėl nesėkmė elgesio lygmenyje dažnai klaidingai interpretuojama kaip mūsų, kaip žmogaus, nesėkmė. Laikantis šio eiliškumo būtų lengviau rasti nuolatinį šios travestijos sprendimą.

Žiūrėkite į atstūmimą kaip į galimybę – nustojus gyventi netikrą gyvenimą gali atsirasti kažkas teisingo, naujo, vertingo.

Human beings are capable of accomplishing unimaginable feats, such as scaling the highest mountain of the planet to diving into the darkest abyss of the ocean and from landing on moon to surviving in almost unhabitable environments; yet, there is still one human fear that can bring an end to all our adventures and also to our expression of joy.

The fear that we talk about is the fear of rejection. This fear of rejection can grip us in everyday situations, like when talking with people or it can also happen if we are placed in some peculiar circumstances, for example, when we are giving an interview or we are being evaluated for our performance at the job. Either way, what we face is not only a genuine fear but it’s effects are also intensely crippling.

The consequences of fear of rejection can be seen not only in personal situations but also in professional settings because a need to belong and a desire to be valued is a fundamental human characteristic. Thus one can experience the fear of rejection in the form of an awkward feeling just before appearing in a job interview or as an uncomfortable emotion in personal relationship because a constant mistrust and doubt in themselves can easily turn the fear of rejection into a fear of feeling abandoned. And hence, it can easily guide a happy relationship to a painful end.

One of the worst outcomes of this fearful feeling appears in the form of a struggle to say ‘Yes’ to the situations where actually we wanted to say ‘No’. Even when we know that saying ‘Yes’ would make us overworked, overburdened and even feeling harassed on some occasion – just because of this fear of feeling rejected, we end up in such troublesome situations.

Because of this struggle, people end up in hurtful conditions in personal lives and it even drives people to burnouts at their work places. This happens because the incompleteness that we feel inside us forces us to search for inclusiveness from others and before we realize, this search turns into people-pleasing at the cost of our own happiness. So it makes people to live a fake, fabricated life that takes them further away from their true and real self.

And this fear of rejection also does not let us chase our visions and ideas because doing that would need us to place ourselves out of our comfort zones and how can one do that when this fear is paralyzing them? In those situations, clinging to their present situation seems secure and an idea of trying something new to help accomplish their potential becomes a daunting task. Worst of all, this fear makes people put their needs, their desires at the bottom of their list and they continue to live with an idea that their own wishes matter no more.

No doubt that this makes other people to change their behaviors towards the people who suffer from this insecurity. Not only some people start taking them for granted but their own fear of rejection make them more likely to be rejected. ‘Like attracts like’ adage proves to be right in this case because somehow when we feel afraid of being rejected, we seem to instill that feeling inside others to treat us in the similar manner. It also allows those kind of people to gather around us, who want to prey upon our insecurities. This only makes people more vulnerable than they already are.

As for solution, some simple psychological tips could help people to overcome this traumatic emotion.

Face it and allow yourself to be vulnerable. This may be the best thing that could happen to a person because if one could continue to live with the caged emotions all their lives then it would be painful to deal with, at a later stage. Choosing to face it and allowing oneself to be vulnerable help to come out of this self-fashioned entrapment.

Be positive - What you will focus upon now, will make all the difference. If things are not going well and if at that moment, you could stay positive then you are already making a difference.

Rejection takes us closer to what we actually want. It could function as a wakeup call - We would otherwise keep running behind false dreams. Believe that you are stronger than what you otherwise think – this shall increase your capacity to cope.

Keep the order right – feelings, thoughts, actions. We tend to jump upon correcting the actions before sorting out the feelings and therefore, a failure at the behavioural level is often misinterpreted as a failure of us as a person. Setting this order right would assist in finding a permanent solution to this travesty.

See the rejection as an opportunity – something right, something new, something valuable may arise once you stop living a fake life.
